A normal X-ray can help rule out some bone injuries, but it does not show every muscle, tendon, ligament, cartilage, or nerve problem.

Clinical evaluation
The next step depends on the findings.
Persistent symptoms are reassessed through examination and functional history. Additional imaging may be considered when a specific soft-tissue injury is suspected and the result would guide care.
